General Description and Condition:The Cobra replica car is usually based on 1965 – 1967 427 Ford powered Shelby Cobra design. The kit was purchased as 2008 version, however it wasn't registered until 2010. The design is slightly unconventional in that it incorporates fiberglass body on custom tubular steel chassis with front engine driving the rear wheels. The small lightweight car with V8 engine made for high performance sports car. The weight of the finished car is approximately 2,150 lbs excluding driver, and the wheelbase is 90 inches, while the overall length is about 162 inches. This particular car has number of carefully selected components and features that are typical for this type of project. The Factory Five Superperformance versions featured revised and significantly improved chassis when compared to the original. This car has been completely finished. The chassis, suspension, braking and power train components are finished. The project shows very high level of workmanship and attention to detail. The car is in excellent condition; showing no aging or wear.Considering the mechanical and exterior interior condition of the car, and information provided by the previous owner, the odometer indication of 4900 miles likely reflects the actual distance the vehicle has seen.Body and Trim and Glass:The body panels on this roadster are straight and free of accident damage or corrosion. All panels were properly aligned with reasonable and uniform panel gaps and no pinch points. There was no evidence of prior body work and fiberglass repairs. All trim and brightwork was intact and in very good condition. The front and rear bumperettes were straight and free of accident damage or scrapes and the chrome finish was excellent as the pieces were new. The owner indicated that all lights are operational and there were no cracks or scratches in the lens of the headlights or tail lights. The windshield was free of cracks or chips but the front windshield did show some minor pitting from road grit. The trunk area was clean with no carpet or mat. The trunk floor was free of corrosion. The hood and trunk decks as well as both doors opened and closed easily without binding or sagging. The car does not have tonneau cover or hard top.Paint:The replica has been repainted dark metallic red in colour, with white racing stripes on the hood and trunk decks. Quality of the prep work is very good with no sanding marks or overspray on trim or rubber seals. The colour has good shine and lustre and the finish has minimal dust or orange peel in the surface. Wheels and Tires:
The Cobra has Halibrand style aluminum alloy rims on all four corners. The wheels hold Cooper Cobras performance radials. These are staggered in size from front to back and are new showing no aging or wear.. Interior and Instruments:This small sized roadster seats two with front bucket seats separated by transmission tunnel and no rear bench seat. The kick panels show no aging or wear. The black carpet is new and shows no aging or wear. The door panels appear original and are free of cracks or holes in the vinyl cover or arm rests. Front bucket seats are new and show no fading, cracks, tears or split seams in the black covering. There is no sun heat damage to the dash pad and no aging, cracks or holes were apparent. The instrument cluster and steering column are new and have not been modified. The steering wheel is new and free of wear or cracks in the rim. The transmission tunnel is covered in black carpet. The car is simply equipped with driver’s convenience options including single chromed side view mirror, rear view mirror, safety harness, wipers washer, and door latches. The instrument cluster contains the custom installed tachometer, speedometer, fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, battery and clock gauges, with warning lights.Audio:The vehicle has no audio system mounted in the dash panel. No other aftermarket stereo enhancements were found at the time of the inspection.Engine and Power Train:The 302 cubic inch Ford V8 engine was from Mustang GT donor car. The engine has been rebuilt and well cared for with new MSD performance plug wires and wiring harness that was being finished at the time of the inspection. In addition, belts and hoses showed no aging or wear. It started easily and ran smoothly with no unusual noise or smoke that might indicate hidden maintenance or mechanical problem. The induction system consisted of an Edelbrock 4v carburetor on an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold. No significant performance upgrades were noted. The block was dressed up with aftermarket cast aluminum finned valve covers and open style air intake. The cooling system was upgraded with an electric fan. There were no drops of oil on the underside pans and no indication of any fluid leaks. Power is fed through stock five speed manual transmission to the original posi rear end.Suspension/Brakes:The vehicle has some suspension components from 1987 Mustang GT donor car. The front suspension has tubular upper arms and stamped lower arm configuration with coil over shocks. The rear suspension has coil springs and trailing links with shocks supporting the rigid axle. The brakes are typical Mustang front disc-rear drum configuration. The suspension was firm with no sagging. All components appeared to be new or reconditioned. These critical systems appear to be in good working condition with no apparent problems. This summary is not safety inspection and this report is not qualification of the mechanical integrity of the components, but is only reporting on the visual state of what was present..Frame/Exhaust:The frame and undercarriage have been cleaned and powder coated for protection. There is no indication of any corrosion or road hazard damage. The exhaust system is upgraded with tubular headers leading to recently upgraded stainless steel pipes. There is no indication of any leaks in the system and when the engine was idling the exhaust sound was only slightly louder than normal.
