1986Honda XR600RG "The Holy Grail of the Mighty XR Turns 30"Thisis one of the best in existence, if not the best you will ever see and very hard to come by now like this. Any guywho is now in his 40s and knows all about the Honda XRs will be drooling over this,so here is your chance, anyone reading this listing will know whatthey are looking at. The indestructible RFVC 600 dual carbdry sump engine is very powerful and at this time in the mid eighties wasHonda at its best, and this machine won many endurance events around the world (see Below),very little maintenance and can run ashard as you dare all day. this is an original example, the fenders, side covers, fuel tank, handlebars, hand grips, levers, hand guards, seat, endurance meter, side cover yellow panels etc. are all the original OEM items this bike left the factory with, nothing has been replaced. It really is unique, don't know about the tires as bought it many years ago, they look to be OEM originals as know my XRs very well, I have owned this one for some time and it is very reluctant saleas chances of coming across another one like this don't happen often, estimatedmileage would be 100-200kms, the digital speedo does not recordtotal mileage, bought this bike from the original elderly owner in the US through friend of mine that's been living there since the 80s, was told it was used times, The US version is the way the "R" was intended and not dressed up like an XL to suit ADR regulations like here in Australia, They ran an XRL version alongside the Competition 'R' in the US to satisfy this market. started this bike last week and it started first kick, The engine oil and filter has just been replaced (because wanted too), obviously it didn't need it but like to do these things1985 - 1987 Honda XR600 Honda, realizing that more cc's meant more power, injected a 100cc 85 XR 500  dose to the XR 500 engine making the XR 500 an XR 600 in 1985.This made a fairly strong running machine run a bit stronger. Other changes included an aluminium, rather than steel swing arm,a dry sump engine oiling system, and frame changes.Except for graphics, the XR 600 did not change appreciably until 1988.Howmany motorcycles can you name that won Baja 1000 races spanning 12-yearperiod? Not to mention nine off-road championships and dozens of other majoroff-road events. Only one motorcycle makes the cut: Honda's mighty XR600R.Honda's off-road four-strokes have been immensely successful in terms of bothsales and race wins for decades, and the most successful of them all is thelegendary XR600R.

First introduced in 1985, the XR600R could claim the XR500R as its predecessor. That bike, first introduced in 1979, also proved to be favourite of dirtriders everywhere and amassed racing victories all over the world and in astaggering variety of conditions.

The XR600R introduced number of key features, not the least of which centredon its engine, power plant that produced lots of grunty torque as well asclass-leading top-end power, all spread over an easy-to-ride, seeminglylimitless range. It retained the 500's SOHC four-valve RFVC (Radial Four ValveCombustion Chamber) head for maximum valve area. The XR was fed by twin 28mmKeihin carbs (the same as the 500's except for revised jetting). Spent gasesexited through new, longer, twin head pipe system and redesignedmuffler/spark arrestor.

Transforming the dry-sump motor from 500 to 600 required surprisingly fewchanges. Honda's engineers bored the crankcases to accommodate 3mm-largerbore, while new crank yielded 5mm more stroke for dimensions of 97.0 80mmand an actual displacement of 591cc. While the 600 obviously didn't need asmuch compression to gain extra torque (permitting it to run on lower-octanefuel found in out-of-the-way places throughout Baja), the new bike's larger, redesigned valves opened in tapered inlet ports to add mid-range punch.

Like Honda's Baja 1000 race-winning XR500s, the 600 featured recalibrated,longer-travel suspension; new frame with stout square-section down tube andaluminium swing arm; and an easy-access, no-tools-required airbox cover. The160-watt generating system was also direct result of Baja influence. Aninnovative electronic enduro meter widened the XR600R's appeal, as it providedaccurate tracking of distance, speed and time. Trail riders as well as enduroracers found it useful and, if nothing else, very cool.Theremarkable XR600R made headlines throughout its long model life. It won itsfirst Baja 1000 in 1986 by 45 minutes, thanks to riders Chuck Miller and BruceOgilvie (both current and long-time Honda employees). In all, the 600 would winthe Baja 1000 four times, the Baja 500 three times, the Nevada Rally once,Barstow-to-Vegas once and more desert races than you can count. It was alsoamazingly versatile: Scott Summers built his reputation by winning nine AMANational championships contested in the woods (four in Hare Scrambles and fivein Grand National Cross Country) on XR600s. Summers also won three gold medalsin the InternationalSix Days Enduro-the Olympics of motorcycling-racing against the best enduroracers from every nation on their ground.

Through the years, the XR600R was campaigned in motocross and dirt- track racesas well, yet throughout its design evolution it never moved far from itsoriginal concept. single 40mm carb replaced the twin mixers, stainless steel headpipes increased durability, an automatic decompression system made starting thebike easy, 43mm CR-style cartridge fork and revalved shock improved suspensionresponse, while an optional Power-Up Kit increased power by 25 percent througha larger piston and few other changes. The XR600R also received rear discbrake to complement the front disc it used from the start.

Most significant, the XR600R provided springboard for the incredible XR650Rintroduced in 2000. Like the XR500R before it, the XR600R laid the foundationfor an evolutionary leap forward, and inspired innovations in the XR650R, suchas an aluminium chassis and liquid-cooled engine. In only its first year, theXR650R posted overall wins in the Baja 1000, Baja 500 and the gruelling Nevada2000.TheXR600Rs reign at the top will never be forgotten, marvel of Hondasbrilliant engineering and determination to be number one. This is the ultimate man cave item, and very rare chance indeedPaymentwill be way of bank transfer, NO PAYPAL, and bike will not be releaseduntil payment has cleared, cash on pick up is fine after $500 deposit is madeto my account.
