There's reason why KLRs have reputation of bulletproof reliability, and this noble steed is benchmark example.
As no longer have need for it, it's time for me to hand it on to the next custodian. Yes, this majestic beast has many kilometres on the clock, but in the time I've owned it, it has performed almost without fault up to this day.
I've placed starting price at what think is reasonable for bike that's travelled such distance (2.5x around the Earth to be exact). The bike is registered until mid-January. The engine sounds normal, with no odd knocks or clickity clacks. I've changed the oil and oil filter, and cleaned the air filter religiously every 5000km. The valves were last adjusted at 80000km. Wheel bearings are in good condition, chain and sprockets have reasonable life left in them, as does the rear tyre (maybe about 70% tread). The front tyre is nearly new, having only done about 3000km. Brake pads are probably about 50%, but the rear is little squeaky. I've also fitted heated grips which are awesome in winter, but the grips themselves are looking bit worn. These are powered off terminal block and relay under the seat so you don't accidentally drain the battery flat. also installed USB socket because phone's always dead. Apparently it had the 22c mod done prior to my ownership, but did install the Doohickey. It's also fitted with full Staintune pipe so it sounds super sweet and should help prevent you getting SMIDSY'd.
It is used bike however. The high beam indicator doesn't work (hasn't since I've owned it, but never worried about fixing it) and there is the start of small separations in the vinyl seat upholstery, but no actual split. I've had nothing but trouble with keeping the rack and top box securely mounted, so I've taken to using zip ties in key areas which works amazing but I've had to drill some holes through the rack and guard for them. The plastics are bit average too. The oil drain plug has needed replacing with an oversized item, though it still drips little oil. Lastly, the number plate has been shaken to death, there's screw missing from where the windscreen mounts (I have the screw, but the back-side nut is lost), and the passenger foot pegs like to hang at 45 degree angle.
I did experience wiring short that was the result of part of the wiring harness rubbing on part of the frame behind the binnacle. rejoined the broken and near-broken wires and taped the harness back up. added some rubber hose over the top to prevent the same again.
I'll also throw in two new oil filters with the bargain, and about 10L of Delo400 oil. There's number of take-off parts which you can have, but they'll probably sit on your shelf as they did mine. I'll chuck in the air filter oil too as I'll no longer need it, and if you're interested, my wet weather gear. There's also small tank bag which I've never used, and needs good clean.
So that's about the long and short of it. Any questions or if you'd like to have look at it, please let me know and we can try and organise time. I've taken the photos at as high resolution as possible and form part of the description. Bike is located in Kariong.
