OVERVIEW:
This is super nice 1931 Cadillac Series 355 Eight, Passenger Sedan, nicely appointed and accessorized.
This was new longer, lower body than the previous year, sporting longer hood with hood side ports with matching doors in the cowl. new frame was also introduced with the radiator mounted lower in the frame.
The result was sleeker and sportier stance than previous models.A total of 10,717 Series 355 Cadillacs were built in 1931 in 13 different body styles, with no breakdown of individual model production available.
Serial numbers were not used, they were registered by engine number stamped on the crankcase. This one is numbered 810045, placing it as late model, 672 units from the end of production.
Body is by Fisher, style #31259, body #3083.This car carries CCCA Full Classic status.
It is an extremely low mileage example with only 27,875 original miles and known history back to day one, and has spent its entire life in the dry western climates of South Dakota, Wyoming, and southern Alberta. It has been in the care of its present and 3rd owner since 1992.The car was originally sold new to rancher near Rapid City, South Dakota. His daughter inherited the car and later moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming taking the car with her. Parked in 1942 due to gas rationing, the car remained in storage for the next 50 years as she purchased new car post WWII. Subsequently the day came that she wanted it gone and it was sold to close friend of the current owner.Being seasoned collector of higher end classics, he knew enough to approach the cars revival from storage with care and caution. The engine was partially disassembled to address few minor repairs and allow for thorough cleaning. Repairs were such as the oil pump, one rod bearing re-babbitted, and valve grind with one new exhaust valve, and away it went. To this day the car starts, runs and sounds wonderful. He also had high quality replating done of some exterior brightwork.
In 1985 his buddy waved restored 1910 EMF under his nose and they traded. It remains very true to original, apart from the aforementioned plating, and one exquisite repaint in year 2000, at which time all new safety glass was installed.
In the years since acquiring the car from his good friend, the present owner has logged only 1,575 miles, participating in many local tours, and winning numerous awards and much recognition for its outstanding condition.Never having suffered any body damage or rust, the car presents outstandingly in all respects. Mechanically strong and sound, body dead straight, paintwork flawless, brightwork top notch, and an incredible original interior.
This Cadillac needs nothing and will be carriage of pride for its next caretaker. This listing provides many more details of this special Cadillac as you scroll thru, followed by link to photo album of nearly 200 pics of this fine classic.DRIVETRAIN:
The engine is the correct original 355 ci. L-Head V8, rated at 95 plus horsepower. It starts easily, sounds great, runs strong, and does not smoke or overheat.
All other mechanical components on and around the engine are correct originals and complement the engine in their presentation and operation. The engine bay is clean and tidy, apart from light dust from it few outings and miles.
Mechanicals have been maintained in reliable operating condition as required and modern hints are few and minor, such as hose clamps, couple of electrical connectors, and heater hose bypass union.
The original radiator had been flushed and is in good order. It has thermostatically controlled louvers in front, behind the screen guard. The control arm has been disconnected to keep the louvers in an open position since the car is never driven during cold weather. There are notable, non-permanent additions for practicality. First, cross-over brace with foldable extensions is clamped to the cowl to rad support rods for purposes of supporting both hood halves in an open position.Second, fuel shut-off knob and shaft is supported by brace clamped to the left cowl to rad rod. This knob is accessible via one of the left hood side ports without having to raise the hood, very convenient. The speed selective and first year synchro-mesh transmission with twin disc clutch shifts as it should and there is no clutch chatter, and no unusual sounds from the differential.
New seals have been installed throughout as required.CHASSIS:

All hardware for the twin sidemounts is complete including painted metal covers, spare mounted rear view mirrors, and correct accessory locking hubcaps.BODY PAINT:
The wood body structure is absolutely solid with no issues whatsoever.
Prior to repaint all sheet metal was free of any damage or rust. All body panels, hood, fenders and doors are very straight.

The heater fan is also disconnected. The gauge cluster displays very nice original patina and contains full complement of gauges including clock, trip odometer, and lighter. The original Tropic-Aire heater is controlled from its mated switch to the right of the steering column. The steering wheel is in excellent original condition with no cracks, as are the bakelite horn button and center control levers.Turn signals have been added and are switched from modern electrical controller which is magnetically mounted to the dash and can be quickly and easily removed from sight. This car is equipped with rare Cadillac Pilot-Ray Automatic Driving Lamps.
