Truly "gangster in its styling, budget conscious car for someone who wanted to be chauffeured around and look stylish whole doing it, this was their pick. If you were doctor in this era, and you drove Cadillac, many clients who you would roll up to figured you would be too expensive, so lots of physicians of the time had the go to car with the Buick. Much less ostentatious.For consignment barn find version of the 1937 Buick Touring 4-door with trunk. Overall, we see plenty of patina, surface rust, and paint chipping, but it's all there with are deco styled chrome, and remaining mohair interior.Exterior
A nice tall horizontal ribbed chrome grille leads the way with bullet styled headlights and flanking rounded front fenders with another bullet style turn signal atop. On either side within the front fender is covered body matching chrome trimmed metal spare tire cover, emulating the upper echelon Rolls-Royce. doors with their opening and latching on the pillar are framed below by running board with some sag on both sides. Another rounded swept back fender is on back, and these are side by side to the split rear window and humpback trunk just below. Simple chromed bumpers for the front and rear, which show some rust, and dimpling are attached. small but nice addition in the manifestation of an additional rear window just prior to the "C" pillar allows more light, and passenger vistas. Peeled, faded, chipped, scratched and in all its original charm paint in black covers all aspects of this car.Interior
Camel colored mohair which has seen better days covers the door panels. Faded but nice horizontal ribbed and bakelite knobs and cranks are seen on the stitched panel as well. Moving inside an original dash with surface rust, and plenty of corrosion make up the dash front and gauge cluster. newer CD digital radio is seen in the center along with dual aftermarket gauges, and chromed glovebox door. There original front bench has been replaced with vinyl and shows tears. The rear bench remains mohair, as does all the interior panels, and headliner, however much damage has been done with water seepage inside. new shift lever is in the center of the front bench, and floor coverings have long since been gone. The floor of the trunk has rusted through, and side and front panels inside the trunk are missing.Drivetrain
Opening the hood, we see 351ci Windsor V8, topped with an Edelbrock intake, and bucket style Holley 4-barrel carb. 4-speed manual top loader tranny is on back and Ford inch rear is slapped in. Someone tried to rod this at one time suspect!Undercarriage
Surface rust abounds underneath affecting the frame, and suspension, floorboards and rockers. There is heavy invasive rust on the door rockers above seen from the exterior, and the passenger floorboard is rusted through. Independent coil springs are on front, and leaf springs for the rear, as well as drum brakes all around. turbo muffler system is put on.Drive-Ability
This car will turn over, and attempts to fire on starting fluid, but it will not start, despite gallant efforts by our crack decoder/shade tree mechanic.A barn find, in need of TLC, or just make use of its parts.
