For the model year 1971, Mercedes produced 830 models of the W113. In January and February of 1971 only 300 cars were manufactured. This car was built in the final month of production, making it rare and desirable car. To add to it's uniqueness this car has the Pagoda option which comes with two tops; soft top and rare hardtop design known as "Pagoda".
This particular SL 280 has gone through complete restoration. It's been repainted in it's original color of Dark Olive green. The new interior was kept in it's original Cognac color. All chrome was replaced. New Front Windshield, New Shocks, New Brakes and New Tires were installed. The Floor and Trunk pans were replaced with the finest quality replacement. Here's list of additional parts which have been replaced on the vehicle. All parts were imported from Germany; - Fuel Tank
- Fuel Pump - Front and Rear Chrome Bumpers
- Front Grill - European Headlights- Taillights - All New Rubber Seals around the Doors, Trunk and Hardtop - New Headliner for the Hardtop
The Engine and Transmission were rebuilt by German Master Mechanic whose passion and knowledge is strictly Mercedes Benz. The block is non-matching numbers but it's an original Mercedes Benz 280 block off coupe. Replacement blocks were common practice in the 1970's due to transport issues between Germany and North America. Out of convenience, Mercedes owners chose to have parts switched rather than enduring long wait for parts from Germany.
The restoration took many years to complete. It started as project from one of my relatives who passed it on to me to complete. I've owned it for little over year and have just recently received it from the restoration shop.
I have pictures which show the car's original state before the restoration and some pictures of the progression of the restoration itself. will gladly email them to whoever inquires.
With the exception of small knick which happened during transport this vehicle is in beautiful condition, dream to drive and an absolute show stopper. An exceptional piece of German quality and history for the discerned buyer.
NADA price guide has listed this model from an average of $72,900 to high retail of $169,500.
