This example underwent complete, ground-up restoration and was originally produced in Germany, April 1973. The exterior paint is nothing but bright and high quality! The interior is very tidy and so very attractive!
The paint and trim are in overall excellent order, as is most of the exterior. The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the Pastell White bumpers fit tightly to the body and the battery appears new. All of this Loaf’s electrical components were replaced as needed. Special attention was given to making the Westfalia pop-up top’s canvas liner. The water holding tanks, pump and plumbing were completely reconditioned.
In the rear, is understood to be rebuilt 1.7L flat, air-cooled, four-cylinder engine with Weber two-barrel carburetor and backing the motor is rebuilt four-speed, synchronized manual transmission.
This Bus rolls on Kumho Solus KR21 whitewall radials, size 195/75R14 at every corner, and there’s front spare tire and wheel. Each tire is on white steel wheel topped with chrome center caps. The wheels are in very good order while the tires remain in great condition.
Inside, the orange-and-white theme continues. The front bucket seats are in great shape, as are the rear seats, which will seat up to four adults. Behind the driver is the original wooden cabinet fitted with sink. There are black floormats and wood veneer headliner. Over the engine bay is sleeping area framed by cabinets and storage cubbies. All interior paneling was replaced and new floor covering installed in the rear compartment. There’s black two-spoke steering wheel facing the driver along with black instrument panel that is in very good order, as are the inner door liners. black console resides between the front seats. Even the shift lever has whimsical contribution to the interior theme; the knob emulates the tangerine color of the “5” ball in billiards. In the dash is an Alpine AM/FM stereo with cassette deck and the fuel gauge is inoperable.
In 1972, for the 1973 model year, exterior revisions to the Bus included relocated front turn indicators, squared off and set higher in the valance, above the headlights. Also, square-profiled bumpers, which became standard until the end of the T2 in 1979, were introduced in 1973. Crash safety improved with this change because of compressible structure behind the front bumper. This meant that the T2b was capable of meeting US safety standards for passenger cars of the time, though not required of vans.
Volkswagen Westfalia Camper was conversion of Volkswagen Type and then Volkswagen Type (T3) sold from the early 1950s to 2003. Volkswagen subcontracted the modifications to the company Westfalia-Werke in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Standard Westfalia equipment items included:
• Various foldout seat arrangements for sleeping • Birch plywood interior panels • Laminated plywood cabinetry for storage • Ice box or cold box • Sink (some models) • Water storage and pump • Electrical hookups • Curtains • Screened jalousie (Venetian blind) windows • Laminated folding table
Competition to this Breadloaf in 1973 included Chevrolet’s G10 Van, Dodge’s B-series Van, Ford’s Econoline 150 Van and GMC’s G10 Van.
