Just in time for summer! This 1991 "Westy" is in great condition overall and very well cared for. No, our VW is not "mint", "showroom condition", or "like new", however, this Westy is in fantastic condition, we are non-smokers and considering it is 25yrs.old (and although mostly gently used), it is well used. If you have your ducks in row, you can literally fly in and drive home. This Westy is good to go!
We have waffled long time back and forth to whether to keep or to sell. We have become quite attached. Following much consideration and some major changes in our lifestyle in recent times, we've reluctantly decided to let our "Vango" go.
What have intended you to see in the pics provided is original paint throughout, with only minor bush tree branch scuffs, scratches and minor rock chips. More pictures are available for bidders upon request.
This 1991 also has the original and well maintained 2.1L engine. Delivering the forward and reverse motion of the 2.1 to the original 14" wheels that have less than 10,000km on relatively new rubber, is well maintained automatic transmission. The transmission shifts smooth and beautifully. Our Vango was born and raised on the Canadian west coast (Victoria) and until last year spent its entire life either in B.C. or Alberta (Calgary). This of course means two very important thing's...#1, serviced at "Tony's Auto" in downtown Calgary and #2, free of any serious rust throughout the chassis...aside from very minor surface rust in couple of spots.
I should ad, stored almost entirely indoors during this time. This Vanagon GL also includes the factory A/C (NOT dealer installed) that has had the retro-fit to R134a including the compressor (documented). As disclosed, our vehicle (fittingly named "Vango" as we think these VW's are piece of art) has 271,690 Kilometers (approx 170,000 miles). feel obligated to mention, unless one presently owns or has owned VW bus, (especially the Westy trim) one cannot truly appreciate what maintaining these vehicles entails. If you have owned or do own one, this will be redundant, but this is the later manufactured between '86-'91 (improved & much more reliable with superior cooling system than those prior to '86) wasserboxer aka waterboxer engine, not the inferior water cooled or air cooled predecessor.
This vehicle can easily maintain highway speeds of 120kph all day long, and in fact recently tripped across the mountainous country of Canada without so much as buzz from oil pressure...those familiar will get that too. typically use only the original 070-115-561 oil filters from GoWesty and their recommended 15W50 fully synthetic oil to insure that doesn't occur. say "typically" since the most recent oil change performed on 05/14/16, was only able to find 20W50 oil. The folks at GoWesty are the most helpful and knowledgeable I've found and their site is chalk full of "factual" and accurate info for these vehicles and their owners. For more expert info on this particular (or any) era of VW bus, encourage you copy and paste to your browser this link - http://www.gowesty.com/tech-article-details.php?id=1
Prior to the move from Calgary to eastern Canada complete tune up was performed primarily by myself. purchased through GoWesty (kit #TUNE 2.1) Kit includes:??? German oil filter
??? German air filter
??? Bosch fuel filter
??? Bosch distributor cap (03-214)and ignition rotor
??? Drain plug with washer
??? (4) NGK spark plugs
??? Bosch wire set
I then had further work performed to the gas tank as well as coolant system pressure test following my replacement of the rear heater core, the heater core valve, O-ring, expansion tank cap, the radiator baffle kit (left/right/bottom) and subsequent system flush and fill, with the help of Tony's Auto in Calgary (I supplied gas tank seal kit, since it had developed the leak oft associated with these old VW's...Tony's specialists installed) as well as had National Transmission replace the governor seal supplied following my replacing Differential fluid, Pan Gasket, as well as transmission flush, new fluid and filter/screen kit replacements...and given an A+ with an endorsement of great care. No leaks under this vehicle!
Pop top hinges, latch, tent are all in perfect working order and no rips or holes of any kind. Also has the fully functional ft. Apollo retractable awning also is in great shape. The hinge assembly for the skylight in the pop top is worn but functional and seals tight, and it has crack in the center window pane, but does not leak. *A new one can be had for $140US at GoWesty, GVW-255-745* More pictures are available for bidders.
As for the camper components, the cooktop is very clean and works perfectly, the water tank and pump are completely functional as well and includes RV fill hose just purchased last summer. The fridge works on 12VDC, 120VAC. *Though not functional via propane, this is recent development and I'd suggest failed ignition module and not sealed system issue since sealed system issue would render the fridge not to cool via 12vdc or 120vac which is not the case presently*
If you love classics or just want to get away for the weekends and great outdoors, It is truly passion and lifestyle one should experience in life. This particular VW is perfect partner to begin, continue or renew said lifestyle.
Documentation of all known work performed since 1999 or receipts of components purchased and installed by myself or hired pro when necessary, are available. Again, many more photos are available for bidders upon request.
I have installed several "upgrades" (I realize the term upgrades is subjective...some folks want them so it's an upgrade, some don't, so not so much...but only if done correctly...these are definitely done correctly Functional, aesthetically pleasing and most importantly safe) purchased mostly through "GoWesty".
These items include.
1) Auxiliary battery system under the drivers seat, (can be seen in the pics) super handy and will never drain off the main battery via by-pass relay...never fall victim to dead battery from all night tunes or night lights...or for the chilly evening requiring space heaters) and it charges just like the primary off the alternator as soon as you're on your way. Connecting to solar panels is an easy mod as well.
2) 1000 watt inverter placed behind the drivers seat (can also be seen in the pics) wired to the auxiliary battery to insure no primary battery power loss.
3) Instrument panel L.E.D. coloured bulbs, can be seen in the pic of the instrument panel (presently "red" but also have "blue"). It's personal preference thing...no advantage or disadvantage.
4) New GVW-181403: Non-Illuminated Lighter Assembly from GoWesty.
Finally, few conditions we have in regards to the sale of our vehicle on ebay.
#1 NO PAYPAL
#2, any and all bidders with rating of less than 10 feedback and/or having negative feedback will need to contact me prior to bidding and provide their full name and contact number. Failing to do so or refusing will result in their bid being cancelled and their user ID will be blocked from bidding.
#3, this is bid to own. Upon completion of the auction, the winning bid is the new owner Any inspections are welcome during the auction period. Post-auction inspections are not permitted. If you are bidding you may inquire regarding any pertinent information or ask questions and we will answer asap.
**IMPORTANT** We absolutely love our Westy and hope the new owner will as well. Our vehicle has been very well maintained, looked after and cared for. This VW is being sold in the condition "AS-IS", "WHERE-IS" without warranty, neither expressed, implied nor written. Our "Vango" is used vehicle. Yes, we agree and advertise it looks great and runs great, please understand this is used vehicle and not "like new", "mint" or "showroom condition"...nor are we claiming such things.
If you have your ducks in row, you can literally fly in and drive home. This Westy is good to go!
On 15-May-16 at 08:39:58 EDT, seller added the following information:Need to correct typo in my original ad Regarding the pop top where wrote "The hinge assembly for the skylight in the pop top is worn but functional and seals tight, and it has crack in the center window pane, but does not leak".

That is the typo.

The pop top is completely functional and NOT worn. "Worn" was typo.

My intention was to disclose the linkage for the roof vent was worn, but new assembly can be had GoWesty. The skylight/vent assembly is presently functional and does not leak.

To be clear, the pop top hinges, screen and canvass are in excellent condition.
