bought this 1952 model Sportster in 1972. Purchased from the brother of the original owner. Was told it was Flat Tracker (They only made 17 in 1952 and were all designated as "K"). Checked with Harley but records do not designate which S/N were Flat Track models. There are very distinct items that make me think it may in fact be of 17. First, it has the original Fairbanks Morse Magneto and Flat track oil tank which was only available on the flat tracker models. The last and most important piece of the puzzle is the frame (clearly marked 1952). There are no bungs for mounting an oil tank or battery box which is typical of the flat track design. All other 1952's that were street bikes had the drilled and tapped bungs for mounts. Original color was Forest green (see oil tank) and other than converted to 12 volt for dependability. runs and rides perfect and everything works. Basically, other than being black, it's exactly as bought it 47 years ago. Clear title. Own piece of history! Includes service manual.
