1964 Norton Atlas 750cc Original RoadholderForks Featherbed Frame Engine Number: 20 107859Frame Number:  20 107859This is very originalwell cared for 1964 Norton Atlas with the legendary Featherbed Frame andRoadholder forks developed from Norton's historic championship road racing machines. This is California bike with its original Black 1964 license plate with clear title and current registration.   Ibought this bike 17 years ago. This Norton is an original matching numbers motorcycle in mostly unrestoredcondition with original sheet metal and original paint on the frame with someof the red primer that Norton used back in the day showing through in some placeswhere the black paint has worn some.  Ichose to leave the frame original paint with nice patina.  The overall condition of the bike for being 53years old is very good, but it is not show bike.  It has been ridden on several 1,000 milerides in Northern California and it never has let me down.  The gas tank has beenrepainted and the badges rechromed.  have put about 7,500 miles on theengine since having it rebuilt professionally in 2005 by the award winning Mickey Peters ofBakersfield.  The engine has been bullet proof and performs up to the bike's namesake.  This Norton retains its original spec set up including engine, exhaust,  and dual Amal Monobloc carbs which all work great and provide easy starting and running.  The magneto was rebuilt in2001 and the bike starts flawlessly hot or cold.  just pulled it out of storage after sittingfor over year, and it started on the first kick .  also installed Solid State Rectifier and Zener Diode  couple of years ago and the 12 volt charging system works great.  This bike came with the original long horn U.S. market handlebars which go with the bike if desired by the winning bidder. put on set of the more traditional european market Norton flat bars that got from Norvil of England. The speedometer, tach and amp guages stoppedworking years ago.  installed highend bicycle speedometer/odometer that is super accurate.
There is some very light surface rust in someareas on the chrome, mostly limited to the rims and exhaust.  As is common with Atlas bikes that are ridden lot the long heavy rear fender developed crack on each side of  the fender that can be seen in the side view of the pictures.  had the cracks TIG welded and they are solid and good to go.
Like many Featherbed Nortons the primary chain case does drip oil and could use new seal or would be good candidate for primary belt-drive kit conversion.  Also, the oil tank's top mounting tab has broken away from the tank body.  The oil tank is still secure as it mounts to the tray it sits on with two bolts from below.
Overall, really nice non abusedclassic Norton Featherbed survivor that is ready to ride for manymore years to come or good candidate for complete restoration.Pleaseask if you have any questions prior to bidding, will be happy to answer anyquestions about this motorcycle.
