For sale beautifully restored BMW touring motorcycle. purchased this bike yrs ago in Northern MN.This is the last motorcycle for sale from my small collection. have been restoring motorcycles for the last 13 yearsI do this as hobby. have restored Norton, two Triumph's, two BSA's, Matchless G80, many Honda's, Moto Guzzi and refurbished many others. This is best one have done.
These are rare because not many were imported into the US. New they were quite bit more money than the British bikes. Restoration parts for these older BMW's are quite expensive. To redo one of these is not for the faint of heart.
The paint work on the bike was done by "Brad Janette" custom painter here in Duluth, MN. The gas tank, both fenders, headlight shell and taillight housing were painted and the white pinstripes were painted on. Brad is perfectionist and the paint is high quality.
The powder coating was done in Superior, WI at Dusty's Powder Coating. The frame, front fork assembly, front and rear swing arms, center stand and more misc parts were done in Satin black. The engine cylinders, valve covers and oil pan were done in Wrinkle Black.
The cylinder heads were totally restored with all new parts by Leo Goff at Memphis Motor Werks in TN. Leo is nationally renowned motorcycle racer, restorer and machinist for BMW and Norton motorcycles. Cost for just doing the head work was $1858.
Charlie Johnson of CJ Motorrad LLC in Victoria, MN went thru the engine, gearbox and rear differential. All necessary seals and gaskets were replace as needed. The slingers were cleaned and all clearances checked. He also replaced the pistons and rings.
Front fork assembly was rebuilt with new shocks, roller steering bearings, wheel bearings and fork tubes, all seals and gaskets. Rear shocks have new inserts, covers and are painted and powder coated.
NEW PARTS starting at the front of the bike:
New Heidenau tires, tubes and rim strips, stainless steel spokes, German chrome rims, Stainless steel front axle. All cables, rubber parts, orings, seals, gaskets and grommets.Albert left mirror, brake and clutch levers, horn, tire pump, side stand, tool box lock, front silver hub cap.All nuts and bolts are new stainless steel or chrome plated.Headlight reflector, bulb, ignition switch, terminal board, indicator lenses, and chrome trim.USA style handlebars w/brace, stainless steel handlebar risers and chrome hardware.Gas tank has new knee pads, Karcoma petcock, aluminum gas cap and mounting hardware.Battery, coil, spark plug wires, main wiring hardness, rear brake light and headlight switches.Shift pedal, air filter, stainless steel carb to air cleaner tubes, all drain plugs, kick start lever.Stainless steel pushrod tubes, stainless steel front and rear axles.Complete new exhaust system, correct style for the bike.Denfeld solo seat w/all mounting parts. Carbs have been gone thru with new float, and float needles, and other misc parts.Taillight chrome ring, Hella taillight lens and seal, and stainless steel rear brake rod. There are other new parts, too many to list.
I have tried to be as thorough as possible. This is my honest assessment of the motorcycle. It has been driven 61 miles since have restored it. It starts in couple of kicks, runs smooth with no vibrations, stops good, and shifts smoothly. One small issue is the neutral light comes on in 4th gear and don't know why. am selling it as is. Also the tripmeter reset knob is missing. The new owner will have to source one.
