This Alpina originally had Veglia-Bressel speedo with side mounted reset stem and it would have been mounted to the top of the left fork stanchion under the spring cap, it was probably broken or malfunctioned and was replaced decades ago with this one. 
The bars might also  not be original, we are not sure as was 10 years old in 1975! 
 The headlight was originally black, also the chain guard was removedSold with Q1 bill of sale, no title or registration available.
