For Auction is 1978 Honda CB750A Hondamatic. The motorcycle has clear title. It's ser.# is 7200005.The CB750A was milestone to motorcycle engineering, as was the K0 sandcast 1969 CB750. The Hondamatic was made for only years, 1975 for Canada only, 1976 US CB750A 4100 produced, 1977 US CB750A1 2300 produced, 1978 US CB750A2 1700 produced. No other markets was it offered. It was revolutionary design, while looking like CB750, it was "wet sump" design, transmission was speed, with transmission oil pumps, transmission clutches, with torque converter. Simple, ingenious, effective. Other features were pneumatic idle adjuster for seamless transition between neutral and drive, superior PD carburetors, parking brake, shared engine/ transmission oil, instrument pod (idiot light pod) with fuel gauge. This machine is restoration project, with many parts missing, and frame chop started. The frame is repairable, it was not neck rake, but either side top stiffening tubes (see photos) and rear 6" cut off. The engine is not stuck. Of the years of production the 1978 was the most refined, and the only year with Comstar wheels. The 1978 year started production with 7200001, this machine is 7200005...the 5th and possibly earliest surviving 1978 model, of production of only 1700 produced! These machines were different, unconventional, smooth twist and go cruising, reliable and misunderstood. As Classic/Antique Honda's in the CB750 series are rapidly climbing in value, so too is the interest in the CB750A, and is forcast (google this) to perhaps eclipse other model years after K0, in value, because of rarity and sophisticated design. Here's site http://www.wow.com/wiki/Honda_CB750 to start to research for yourself. As owner/rider of 1978 model, my opinion is these are amazing, different, far ahead of their time. haven't the time for this treasure, too many other projects, so am going to let it go. Many parts tank, etc from standard 1978 K8 will fit, or buy rough complete 1978 that comes up on Ebay (barn fresh) and use it as the parts source to build this one. As for the exhausts which rotted out(common problem) this was fitted with the (in the day fix) in to headers. It was also fitted with the larger PD4 carbs from the K8, which is about the only way to make these run well on Ethanol fuel. The speedo with it may be the original which states mileage of only 12712.5 miles. As restoration project, this starts with all the provenance, (matching frame engine numbers) have read there may be less than 200 1978 models left (Google), tried to find the article...now many sites are popping up with much information, compared to few years ago where the only sentence mention was on Wiki!  So if you are looking for that rare Honda project, definite practical classic, solid future investment, this somewhat bare bones roller is the one to go for, amazing potential. Can't believe I'm doing this, but have to free up cash to finish other things...LIFE right? This is the kind of machine which museums, discerning collectors go for. This is winner!
