This first-year Black Valkyrie Standard is like time capsule for 1997. Carefully one-owner maintained cosmetically and mechanically-insects always”dry cleaned” after each ride, has never been water-hosed or ridden in the rain. Always upright; stored on frame lift (off of suspension) for half of every year.  have performed 14 oil/filter changes with Honda HP 10-40 oil and Honda OEM filters; one coolant exchange with Honda coolant; new Avon Venom tires at 6,500 miles, NGK spark plugs at 7,222 miles and new Yuasa battery last year. Always on battery tender when not ridden. Looks, runs and rides absolutely like new. The Valkyrie has been universally praised in every professional riding review. An early Valkyrie is factory hot-rod custom "naked" version of the Gold-Wing, but with six carburetors, "hotter" cam, and stiffer frame for handling; the super-smooth flat-six engine even allowed the block to become an integral part of the frame-stiffening without isolation bushings. These first-year models were rated at 102 horsepower, with subsequent years rated slightly lower; every first-edition Valkyrie has impressive torque in all five gears.
Other than one with no miles, this has to be the finest first-edition, desirable black Valkyrie standard around. Cost $13,485 new in July 1997, so it seems like bargain now for $7,950. This is totally original, fully-documented one-owner, well maintained, unmodified, stock-as-factory bike. Perfect Hondas generally rise in value eventually with age, judging by the rising values of many 30-year old Hondas. This one is about to turn 23 years old-the price should go up as it heads toward 30 if it follows other Honda classics like CB 750, Mini trail bikes, Dream 300, CBX, etc). Original tool kit and owner’s manual included along with factory shop manual, purchase records and all receipts. Like new hydraulic lift and with adapter to custom-fit the Valkyrie is included for pickup or shipping with the bike.
As shown in maintenance record, rode it about 1000 miles per year for few years, and only about 100 per year the last few years.  It's like starting with new, broken-in bike if you want to ride it lot (these engine/drivetrains regularly run dependably well past the 100,000 mark). Or, it's good bike to ride sparingly like have, maintain perfectly and watch the value rise over the next decade.
And, while it's somewhat true these engines (like in Goldwings) "go forever" there should still be value difference between bikes (just as with cars and trucks) with 10,000 miles on them versus  those having been used for 30,000, 40,000 or more miles.
