I THINK IT’S MOTHER WAS BOLSHOI BALLERINA.
IT’S FATHER, SÜD TYROLEAN FARM EQUIPMENT.It’s mule? truck? tractor? While I’m still not sure what it looks like, know it can plow snow. Pull stumps. Twist and turn tipsy at Oktoberfest, even with heavy cases stacked across it’s shoulders. Every part is high industrial art and looks it’s duty. But while it really doesn’t do anything particularly special, this dead simple anvil just keeps doing it. And that may be why it is motorcycle so easy to love. It is the care-free, simple-minded cousin of today’s extravagant motorcycles. It is versatile tool of meandering and wandering from an overspecialized world that has forgotten to relax.
RECENTLY COMPLETED MAINTENANCE, ADJUSTMENTS AND USUAL UPKEEP AS NEEDED.
- Seasonal valve adjustment and fluid change:
engine, brakes, trans, final drive
- New windshield
- New pair of Heidenau Scout tires
- New Odyssey drywall battery with charger pigtail
- New BMW starter
(No Chinese patch-up parts gifted forward.)

GENERAL OBSERVANCES, OVERALL CONDITION.This bike reflects proper care, honest respect, no major mishap.

Mechanically, it is solid from axle to axle. Despite cold-blooded nature, it starts easily and runs perfectly, smoothly without any obvious noise reflecting wear and tear issues. There are no excessive leaks or weeps. Greasy in all the right places. Acceleration is brisk, clutch is smooth, gear changes are deliberate and notoriously clunky, braking is sure. No smoke, gremlins to chase or issues to curse.

Cosmetically, there is no damage evident of spills or thrills, with tank, bodywork, frame, lenses and general finishes good to excellent with random chips and scratches.
- Gas tank is without rust, dings or dents. Matte titanium finish is excellent with few minor scratches.
- Seat cover and foam are really good, with slight fatigue.
- Hard plastic items, like side covers and airbox, show minimal aging.
- Perfect headlight glass and good plastic lenses, reflectors.
- The exhaust system is surface rusty below the head pipe where heat baked grim is typical. Head pipes fade blue without exhaust leak, dings or dents. Muffler is swirl scratched, minor scuffing from over-zealous cleaning.
- The most vulnerable part of the bike, the heads, plastic guards and roll cage are scuffed without severe injury.- Alloy rims are true and without rash. The indigo anodized coating is always dull.

If the age and condition of horse can be determined by rolling back the lips to judge the teeth, the same can be said of inspecting the skid plate on an enduro. No gnarly Baja trail hunting/rock jumping here.  Just dusty highway. This GS could use another day of thorough Q-tipping though, down low without any lurking surprise, but with plenty of cold beverages.

MINIMAL MODIFICATIONS.
- Almost religiously stock, not over-accessorized, but minimally personalized with BMW low-profile bench seat for flat-footed assurance.
- Touratech case mounts are installed, (aluminum boxes are not included as they transfer onto another bike in the mix.)
- After the only out-of-warranty endemic failure, CPC stainless quick-disconnect valves were installed on leaking gas tank fuel lines for reliability and easier maintenance access to under tank… with fuel stain on right cylinder head evident before the remedy.

EXTRAS FOR THE TAKING.
- BMW System City Case pair, with mounts, match keyed to ignition. Fully functional, good used cosmetic condition.
- New Corbin two-part leather saddle, with back rest. Never used or installed, still in box. For solo or two-up.
- Full manual and key set, extra decals and whatever else can clean out from the garage and library.

IT KNOWS THE LONG WAY ROUND AND THE SHORT WAY TO GET THERE, HERE OR ANYWHERE.
HOW ABOUT JUST OUT OF MY GARAGE?Collectable and capable? Surely both. This oil head needs new steward who wants to double the odometer or noodle possible preservation example for bargain. It’s scratch and dent world, and paying list is fool’s game on new bike when good used one that just keeps doing what it was intentionally engineered to do is smart gold… I’m retired master mechanic with too much time on my hands and never enough garage space. As lapsed, sincerely appreciative BMWOA member who’s dated just about everything on two wheels since the sixties, I’m simplifying my life, sleeping in later, reading the paper in it’s entirety and ignoring the phone. It’s great not having needless daily grease under my nails and the thought of performing another oil change on anything is losing it’s appeal by the day. Clean bikes like this are hard to catch and even harder to release. Getting jump on garage cleaning, I’m needing to say good buy… So show me muscular supermodel parked and thirsty at the biergarten clad in titanium lederhosen and spoked anodize, and I’ll show you few young bloods who will keep buying, wetting her whistle, despite few honest scratches and hickeys.
