Here for sale is my 1994 Mk1 Eunos MX5 1.8 'S special' as non-runner, hoping to sell as whole as it would make an ideal project/turbo/track car for someone and is set up so well it would be real shame to break it.
In brief, It runs, but does require some attention. have spare MX5 in separate listing Item ID: 254928676252 this one has good 1.8 engine and lots of other bits to use if required. haven't looked into what the fault is, all have is info from the previous owner that it overheated, but he was able to nurse it back home. Having the spare car means you'll have everything you need to get it up and running.
Strictly cash/balance transfer on collection from near Witney Oxfordshire. (Needs trailering)
I've owned this car now since around September 2019. The intention was to put it back on the road as soon as the weather improved in spring 2020 and have it ready for the summer. Unfortunately with the arrival of the pandemic and having to navigate running business throughout whilst kids and family at home etc. the car was well and truly put on the back burner. year on and have just lost any enthusiasm had to take the project on.
SPEC AS FOLLOWS;-
Below information was supplied by the previous owner.
- The car is on 103,893 miles. Did the cambelt, water pump and thermostat with OEM parts from MX5parts about years ago at 100k miles.- History on the current engine was fairly good, the cambelt snapped at around 100k miles but due to these being non-interference engines, replaced it all and the car was fine. Then out of the blue the headgasket went. had the head professionally skimmed and replaced the HG with OEM gasket. The car never quite ran perfectly again it lasted around 2k miles before overheating one day. nursed the car home as was 0.5 miles away and it hasn't started or moved since.
- It's SORN'd and without MOT as expired. When the car ran, it's last MOT was late 2017 and it passed with no advisories on 100,277 miles. Note the MOT history is fairly clean/minor for one of these, from 2005-2016 lot of the small advisories in the past related to emissions/parking brake, nothing structural.
- Believe the car was imported around 2001 ish. (Has electric windows and mirrors)

Good bits
Wheels Suspension Chassis LSD.
- Rota Grid-V 15x7 ET20 wheels in Bronze all in good condition, on 195/50/15 rainsport 3’s with approx. 3mm tread on three, one is near the limit. One centre cap is not fitted but have it. With black (steel) tuner nuts.
- Meister Zeta CRD coilovers
- GCF roll bar Black, have certificate, GCF installed it in my ownership. (Proper job with built in harness bar, no monkey metal here)
- Torsen LSD which actually works unlike the many others. Also changed the oil just over year ago when the car ran (barely any mileage since) with Castrol GL5. These on there own are fairly valuable.
- (Believe its polybushed all round via previous owner.)
Engine Extras
- Mishimoto alloy rad slimline fan – great condition.
- K&N air filter Bit of bodge but worked.
- Blue Stoney Racing Hoses – Full set, few are installed on the existing engine around the back when it was first fixed when the head was off.
- Original 'S special' yellow strut brace.
- Mx5 parts stainless single exit exhaust.
- Aircon stripped out, IL motorsport belt to PAS on there, and bypass duct for heater (aircon delete pipe) included.
Interior
- Full interior is pretty clean for its age.
- OMP 330mm steering wheel (Genuine, have receipt).
- Vinyl softop in good condition, was replaced at some point by previous owner, clean/dry on inside. £N/A
- JDM chrome windscreen mirror for JDM points.
- JVC KD-R661 Headunit USB/Aux.
- Orange snooker ball gearknob on car as one of the pictures.
Exterior
- GV front lip – (bendy poly version)
General
- OEM spare wheel included
- steel key, and immobiliser fob that was on the car when got it. (No alarm, never caused any trouble.)
- folder with whole host of history, alignment specs parts the previous owner myself have bought. V5 etc.
In total then, using the low end figures fairly conservative and quick £1450+ worth of second hand parts... without even factoring in the car itself.
These cars are appreciating and with bit spent on fixing this one up, I'm certain it'll be worth far more. (I may want to buy it back!)
Bad bits
- Engine needs attention. plus general reconditioning/inspection of the car would be required due to it being sat.
- The car took hit in car park from someone that couldn’t drive/park in huge 4x4 so the drivers side wing has dent in. However have sourced an original drivers side wing in black in good condition that will throw in with the car. (Not insurance recorded, wasn't worth it.)
- Rust – (it’s an MX5) in general when bought this car it was the cleanest one had seen (I took ages finding one and am fairly OCD) all looked original with minor signs of any rust in the rear arches. However, now it’s beginning to show on the passenger side rear arch (see photos) wouldn’t say it was horrific compared to most you see, but it would want doing in the future. The drivers side rear arch seems to be holding up better but the starting signs are there. The rest of the car seems good. It's probably worth saving overall tbh as these models are well sought after.
- As the cars been sat for while the discs have some surface rust on, would probably suggest sorting them. The calipers etc all worked fine just over year ago, but as haven’t been able to drive can’t confirm. Had new mintex pads up front about 1k miles before it stopped running.
-------------------------------------------Would need trailering away, SORN'd and no MOT.
I'm not breaking the car. If had the time to do that, i'd just fix it. Plus genuinely think it's too nice to break. Values on mk1's getting stronger.
