Here we have for sale my wife’s 2007/57 VW Polo GTi 1.8T door in “Flash red”. Current mileage approx 107,100. We bought this car in September 2013 from chap in Southampton who’d bought it himself from VW Main Dealer have in the history few bits of paper regarding his purchase. My wife is not known for her speedy driving so to honest this car has had very easy life while we’ve owned it.
It has full and complete VW Main Dealer service history stamped up in the original book together with various VW invoices detailing the work done. There are no mysterious gaps in the history and no “local garage” services hiding in amongst the Main Dealer ones they are all VW Main Agent services and all are the right services, i.e. the service it was due at that point not all oil services!! We’ve spent lot of money keeping this car in the condition cars like this should be kept in.
I will though admit that we’ve had few additional bits taken care of locally of these by an authorised Bosch Service centre and other issues by APS in Brackley well known award winning VW Audi specialist who can highly recommend.
Up until 2012 this car was on VW’s “Long Life” servicing plan this was changed in 2012 to more normal servicing schedule this is shown by there being Main Dealer stamps (the same Main Dealer by the way) within few days of each other I’m more than happy for you to check this out if you feel the need have all the details in the service book.
I’ll list all the services and other bits we’ve had completed below:
12/03/2009 18035 miles VW Main Dealer (Loders of Dorchester)16/07/2010 36074 miles VW Main Dealer (Loders of Dorchester)22/11/2011 43876 miles VW Main Dealer (Peter Cooper (Chichester) Ltd27/07/2012 52531 miles VW Main Dealer (Peter Cooper (Chichester) Ltd01/08/2012 52721 miles VW Main Dealer (Peter Cooper (Chichester) Ltd31/07/2014 73047 miles VW Main Dealer (Wayside Towcester)04/08/2015 84899 miles VW Main Dealer (Wayside Towcester) 26/07/2016 93747 miles VW Main Dealer (Wayside Towcester) *Includes x4 new tyres10/07/2017 103890 miles VW Main Dealer (Lancaster Towcester) *Was Wayside
So in addition we’ve had the following work completed:
13/01/2016 Replaced both front lower suspension arm rear bushes Bosch approved Service centre £302.28
03/02/2016 Replaced engine timing belt Bosch approved Service centre £339.00. There is no mileage noted on the invoice but if you look at the date which is approx months prior to the VW service shown above at 93747 miles assume it was around 90,000 miles which is when it’s due for these cars.
21/08/2017 105385 miles Replace boost control valve (a common issue with these engines where the turbo power delivery isn’t smooth). APS Brackley £95.29
13/10/2017 107100 miles Replace rear passenger side brake line, brake fluid changed. New rear brake discs and pads fitted (which supplied). £115.21
I’ve also replaced the heater fan resistor in the last couple of months another common fault on VW’s this age.
The MOT isn’t due until 8th August 2018. If you look at the advisories on the DVLA’s website just Google “DVLA MOT History check” it shows few things most of which I’ve sorted out. The rear brakes have been changed, the side indicators (the ones in the wing mirrors) were both cracked so dirt had got in I’ve replaced both within the last couple of weeks with genuine VW parts not the cheap versions you can buy these both now look and work as good as new. I’ll be replacing the fog light bulb in the next day or so! It mentions the front discs and pads are getting low haven’t changed these as believe this is basically Main Dealer “Scare mongering” they still have life left in them and don’t judder but not big cost to deal with much like the bump stops and other minor items shown.
All tyres were replaced during the VW service in 2016 they currently have the following tread depths on them: Both rear tyres approx 5mm, both fronts approx to 4mm. All appear to be wearing evenly the tracking has been checked recently anyway.
Driving the car it goes, handles and stops as it should. It boosts as it should do, there’s no smoke on start up, hot or cold, and none when accelerating. The clutch is still good, it is the original one isn’t slipping or causing any issues as mentioned before it has had very easy life! The gearbox is likewise very smooth and works as it should. It also has the original exhaust pipe which again is causing no problems.
The A/C does work but it’s no more than “cool” so could do with re-gas the compressor definitely starts up.
It has an AUX connection added before we owned it it’s loose wire under the steering wheel and allows you to plug it into the headphone socket of an iPhone then play your music that way tested and working.
This is totally standard car inside and out, no modifications, never chipped and from what can see never crashed or damaged the paintwork looks totally original to me I’m pretty good at spotting bad paintwork repairs and filler and this has none that can see. There’s an Experian AutoCheck document in the history from when the previous owner bought it from the VW Main Dealer which shows it to be clear on all checks. can also confirm there’s no finance on it now either and it certainly hasn’t been crashed since my wife has owned it.
That said it is 10 year old car so although it’s in good original condition and has been very well looked after with lot of money spent there are various minor marks and wear etc. from everyday use. I’ll go through some of these now.
Inside
Picture 11 shows crack in the plastic trim that sits by the windscreen it was like this when we bought it and hasn’t got any worse it's simply crack in the plastic no structural issues!! it just doesn’t look that good and isn’t because of any problem with the car.
The carpets could do with clean as there are no mats decent hoover will help or proper valet because of this there’s some minor wear to the plastic bit on the driver’s side where you put your feet it has not worn through (See picture 8).
There are some dirt stains on some of the seats more noticeable on the rear centre bottom seat (see picture 9) from transporting kids home after football over the years! haven’t tried to clean them so good clean with decent seat cleaner will solve this the stains are just dirt nothing else.
There is minor wear to the front seat bolsters as you’d expect but not bad and no rips holes and certainly no foam stuffing poking through!!
Both the front door cards have some minor wear more on the passenger side in the cloth by the handle probably where the ring finger has caught it over the years and the speaker covers on both of these door cards have single 1cm or so cracks there are no holes in them, just these small cracks.
The gearstick surround gaitor has worn in places on the bottom side (below gears on the gearstick). Again really not that bad no huge rips or holes just wear to be expected after 107K and 10 years of use.
The driver’s side electric window doesn’t work as it should the motor works fine as does the switch. About year ago this window was replaced after some really thoughtful person smashed it in car park and stole an iPad which my youngest son had unfortunately left on view. think it’s simply not fixed properly in the clips that sit in the regulator as it goes up fine but isn’t so keen on going down! No security issue with it like this just annoying! I’ll try to look at this over the next week or so but no guarantee I’ll be able to fix it.
Outside
No dents or nasty dings and no evidence of any paintwork anywhere. It does have few minor marks, scratches, the odd tiny ding but overall it’s very clean, very original and still looks good even after 10 years. The wheels do have some minor kerbing and scuffs etc please take look at the pictures but it drives straight and true, no juddering or anything like that and no uneven tyre wear.
Both side mirror casings have been touched up and had areas sprayed to cover scratches and chips etc they look ok but just making you aware. Both mirror motors work by the way.
Finally there are number of paint chips all across the front bumper that I’ve done my best to touch up but you may want to get “Chips away” or similar company to sort it properly. can only think that the paint VW used was soft on the bumper (I’ve spoken to VW Main Dealer about this and they confirmed that it’s known issue and they’ve seen it plenty of times). The bonnet is fine and only has few stone chips on it all touched up. You can only really see the ones on the bumper if you’re up close it’s not major thing but if you’re looking to get it absolutely spot on £100 or so to get it sorted is all it’ll need.
So there it is we’ve looked after this car over the last years and spent lot of money to keep it in the best condition we can although as I’ve said it is 10 years old and has been used so please bear that in mind. I’ve done my best to describe everything so hopefully there are no surprises.
There aren’t that many totally original and standard ones of these left and even less with complete VW Main Dealer history.
Finally the boring bit to all genuine eBayers please excuse this bit!! All offers and the eventual sale will need to go through eBay to protect everyone (although I’d want cash not PayPal as payment). If you have feedback of less than 25 please don’t put in an offer without contacting me first like many eBayers I’ve had bad experiences in the past. Viewings are welcome but won’t allow anyone to drive it without first seeing their photo ID driving license and proof of fully comp insurance that allows them to drive cars not owned by them no excuses on this please!!
This eBay account is my personal one and as you can see rarely use it now in fact it has been over year since have hence the 0% feedback score on 653 transactions! If you’re worried about this at all then please search on eBay for “UsefulHistory shop” this is my business account shop on eBay you can even message me that way if you wish to make sure am who say am! I’m genuine eBay business seller and have worked hard to get the eBay “Premium” service emblem in this case simply want to keep it separate from my business as it’s personal sale I’ve nothing to hide!
The car will be sold as seen and tested not that I’m aware of any issues at all just making people aware! I'm probably making it sound worse than it is by going over all the little marks etc. but having bought cars on eBay before and being disappointed to find marks and issues didn't expect on arrival thought it better to be as upfront as can with this one! Thanks for looking
Any questions at all please feel free to ask
