1973 Yamaha R5/YR5 350 barn find project.
As found after some years in barn near Lyon. purchased this bike from the widow of the owner who recalled her late husband having the bike in 1979 so low owner bike. She was unable to find the log book but after some research believe this bike to be 1973 or little earlier due to the twin leading shoe front brake and igintion in the headlamp shell.
I think that the engine is from later RD model as it has six speed gearbox. The frame number is P5 086340 and the engine number is 352- 605872. would welcome any further info and will add it to the listing.
Overall condition is as found and reasonable. The bike is totally complete, even have the rear indicators that are attached to period rack that is not fitted but will come with the bike. The engine turns over fine with good compression and the six gears engage ok. The brakes work but will need checking out. have the original ignition key but when you connect battery nothing happens so imagine the main fuse has blown at the very least.
Cosmetically the chrome is pretty good and the tank is very solid with spotless interior. The exhausts are not rusty but are bit dull and have few scrapes etc. assume the paintwork has been redone at some point as cannot find this design in any period photos. The seat base is reasonable and the hinges, catch and support all good but when down it does not sit entirely flat. The seat strap is broken and the original cover has couple of splits.
The speedo is showing 64000kms (40,000miles) obviously cannot verify this but overall condition would suggest that this is correct.
There is no buy it now price and the auction will run to the end.
There is no log book with the bike but will supply French certificate de cession and will NOVA the bike for the new owner so registering in the UK will be straight forward. The bike is at present at my house in central France and will be arriving in the UK just after the end of the auction and is for collection from Capel near Dorking, Surrey. may be able to deliver to other parts of the UK, please email me for price.
