Welcome to the listing for my Yamaha XS650. This is NOT arecent import requiring registration and restoring but complete, up andrunning mostly original specimen in good working order registered in my nameand with an MOT. It spent the first part of its life in Texas and was importedin to this country before bought it. It was UK registered in 1996. But theengine number determines that it is 1977 model. At some point asecond front disc was added. However, the master cylinder was not upgraded so Ihave fitted one from Honda with larger swept volume and the brakes workwell. The brake callipers have been stove enamelled. The air filters have beenreplaced with pod filters. The bike is in mostly original unmolested conditionand has nice patina for its age.The chrome on the front mudguard and chainguard is alittle thin as are the exhaust pipes but there is no undue rust. The chrome onthe silencers is generally quite good except on the end caps where there is alittle rust. It has been like this for some years and hasn’t got any worse. Thesilencers do their job OK. The paint work is in good condition. The battery boxand the front engine mount have been powder coated.The ignition had been replaced with Boyer Bransdenignition when bought the bike and this works well and is trouble free. Thecarburettors have been ultrasonically cleaned. reckon that the ignition andcarburation are spot on and the engine sounds to me to be perfect.A common condition encountered on these machines is thestarter motor kicking out prematurely. have replaced the offending pinion butit still kicks out occasionally. It is little irritating but there is thekick starter which can be used on these occasions. guess that is what theycall character! have replaced the gear lever as the splines on the oldone were little worn. There is small nick on the seat cover on the righthand side but this is barely visible. The tyres are brand new and the shockabsorbers have been replaced in the past year. have just fitted brand newlocking petrol cap.So, all in all this is fully functioning machine that Ihave lavished lot of time and attention on which will provide the new ownerwith many trouble free miles.
