HONDA XR500
Welcome to the reluctant sale, (5 bikes currently, so something has to go!), of my 1979 manufactured, 1980 registered original Honda XR500.
Purchased new in 1980, it has only had two previous owners, the second having purchased it in May 1982, it remained with him until 2014, when acquired it. It is registered with the V5 in my name, with full unrestricted MOT.
Please be under no ilussion, this is an exceptional original bike having covered only 4600 miles. It has not been re-painted, powder coated, plated or messed with any way at all. It is wearing its original paint and the plastics remain unpainted.
It has been treated to top-end engine re-fresh with new standard bore high comp piston and rings. The cylinder, piston and rings were perfect, so only honed for new piston ring seating. Valve stem and overhead rocker stem oil seals and gaskets all replaced. Serviced with fresh oil, filter and carbureter clean.
It is sporting new quality chain and NOS Honda chain tensioner block. The tyres have been replaced, an original factory pattern 23" front and quality new rear. The seat cover is new.
As 36 year old it is showing the visual signs of use, light scratches/assorted markes on the tank and frame, (no dents) The foot pegs and side stand could do with repainting. have not touched these, as wanted to leave the bike as original as possible.
The engine and gearbox is sweet and quiet with no unusal noises or rattles at all and it pulls like preverbial train, (much more powerful than contemparory TT and XT 500's, 36 HP compared to 27) Read below what Cycle Sorce Magazine wrote about it in 1979,.."The best of its class" see the extract below..
If am to be in anyway critical of it, It is only because it is sporting repro front mudguard. (The original is included in the sale, but requires further wet sanding and polishing to remove all traces of sun bleaching)
Viewing before auction end is more than welcomed and encouraged. The bike is currently taxed and Mot'd to mid 2017. Call or e-mail 07500 708331 Chris, with any questions at all.
The Boring bits... Sorry to have state what to "good Ebayers" is taken for granted.....
This is an auction to sell, (not buy and then try re-negotiate). deposit of £200 will be expected within 24 hours of auction end and the balance in cash or bank transfer "cleared" before release of the bike.
No part exchanges, as trying to slim down no of bikes sorry The Bike is sold with no warranty, (36 year old classic bike!) Thanks for looking..
