If you’re looking at this post, I’m sure you know what you are looking at. This is 31 year old motocross bike with issues, it’s either going to need full restoration OR to be used as parts bike.We bought of these bikes couple of years ago – we were planning to restore them race them but being perfectly honest we lost interest in them. This one is still in pretty much the same condition it was in when we bought it other than we have:-replaced the kickstart with better one than was installed, it’s not perfect but it’s whole load better than the alternative!! You can kick the bike over without your foot slipping off stabbing yourself in the legremoved the carburettor from the bike yesterday, disassembled it, cleaned it out reset the mixture screwonce those items were addressed yesterday some fresh fuel added the bike kicked up straight away ran sweet. Issues we know about (there are likely to be others but trying to be honest):-There is an issue with the water pump seal, water has entered the gearbox contaminated the gearbox oil – we’ve emptied the oil out, flushed the gearbox out emptied the water out from the cooling systemthe front forks obviously have no oil in them – so expect these to need complete rebuildrear shock is similar story to the forksexhaust is in bad shape has been extensively repaired by the previous owner(s)there are random bolts holding things togetherplastics have at some point been painted white (lovely) so bike will really need full plastics kit if you were wanting to restoresomeone has done terrible job of re covering the seat (the original seat cover is underneath this one but we have not removed this monstrosity to look at the state of it..)There is no kill switchfront brake is sticking onthere are parts missing from the rear brake – brake pedal is not attachedAll in all there are lots of parts on the bike which would be of great value to somebody who has another one of these 86 RM 250’s the bike could well be good candidate for restoration but would need to be fully restored to make it worthwhile.Please feel free to ask any questions or come to view the bike.
