I BOUGHT IT JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR AS COMPLETE NON RUNNER WITH ABOUT 70000 ON THE CLOCK THAT HAD STOOD ON GARDEN FOR FEW YEARS. ORIGINALY TAKEN OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE CDI UNIT HAD BLOWN SO REPLACED THAT, CLEANED, BALANCED AND TUNED THE CARBS, CHANGED THE OIL AND PLUGS AND IT RAN SWEET. TOOK ALL THE PANNIERS AND FAIRINGS OFF AND TURNED IT INTO THE UGLY THING YOU SEE NOW.
I HAD GL1000 SEAT WHICH WAS MASSIVE AND LOOKED LIKE AN ARM CHAIR ON BMX! SO HAD IT RESHAPED AND COVERED AS YOU SEE IT, (BIG ENOUGH TO BE COMFORTABLE BUT NOT TOO BIG) IT'S HAD NEW REAR TYRE, THE FRONT ONE IS QUITE OLD BUT HAS LOTS OF TREAD, FORKS ARE GOOD, NO PITS OR MARKS IN THE STANCHIONS. BRAKES, BEARINGS, ETC ARE ALL GOOD, BATTERY CHARGES AS IT SHOULD, CLUTCH IS OK, ENGINE IS SILENT WITH NO RATTLES OR CLANKS, MECHANICALY IT'S ALL SOUND WITH NO PROBLEMS NEED TO MENTION.
IT'S NO GSXR, THE BRAKES ARE SHXT, BUT HAVE MANAGED TO STOP IT SURPRISINGLY WELL ON COUPLE OF OCCASSIONS, AND IT DOESN'T GO AROUND CORNERS VERY WELL, BUT IT DOES MAKE AN AWESOME NOISE AND PULLS LIKE TRAIN IN STRAIGHT LINE.
THE STARTER MOTOR HAD BURNED OUT WHEN BOUGHT IT, CLEANED AND REPAIRED IT WITH NEW BRUSHES AND NOW IT WHIZZES THE ENGINE OVER WHEN COLD BUT IT'S SLOW TURNING OVER WHEN WARM, IT ALWAYS STARTS BUT IT'S SOMETHING THAT MAY GIVE PROBLEMS LATER.
THE WIRING IS MESS, DID IT MYSELF AND I'M NOT REALY HAPPY WITH IT BUT EVERYTHING WORKS AND THERE ARE NO FAULTS, IT HAS HEAVY WIRING AND RELAYS FOR THE TWO OLD 65/65 WAT BATES HEADLAMPS, AND NO IGNITION SWITCH. THE KILL SWITCH TRIGGERS ANOTHER RELAY WHICH IS THE IGNITION. (OLD IGNITIONS ARE EASY TO GET AROUND AND CAN'T BE ARSED TO FUMBLE AROUND WITH KEYS SO TEND TO RELY ON BIG BEEFY LOCKS WITH MOST BIKES)
IT HAS IT'S FAIR SHARE OF BODGES, IF YOU TAKE IT APART YOU WILL BE THINKING "OH MY GOD, WHAT HAS THE TWXT DONE HERE!" BUT IT'S ALL BEEN RELIABLE AND WORKS, IT IS WHAT IT IS, DON'T BID IF YOUR EXPECTING MINT LOTS OF MONEY CUSTOM THING, YOUR BIDDING ON AN OLD RATTED GOLDWING AND THATS ALL. IT'S SOLD AS SEEN, HAVE THE V5 AND MOT CERTIFICATE, COLLECTION ONLY FROM SOUTH BIRMINGHAM B45, NEAR JUNCTION OF THE M5 OR JUNCTION OF THE M42. IT'LL GET YOU HOME WHEREVER YOU LIVE BUT IT'S CURRENTLY SORNED SO HAS NO TAX.
