The bike starts easily and rides really well. lot has already been done to the bike and it has the all-important matching frame and engine numbers, which helps retain it's future value as an investment:New seat coverNew plugsNew batteryNew (correct for model year) handlebarsNew handlebar switches, ready to fitNew decals ready to use once re-painted2r9 barrelsMany parts powder-coated and re-zinc'dMany new bolts fastenersGood tyresExhausts are in reasonable condition Nice tidy example and good basis for restorationReady to use as-is, or this is an excellent basis for full restoration and future investment
Since bought it, I have re-registered it as historic vehicle so it is now tax and MOT-exempt. have also replaced the handlebars with the correct type from Yambits and have sourced the correct handlebar switches (at great expense from the USA! these are expensive parts because they are excellent!) as shown in one of the photos. have also found the correct 400C plastic dashboard casing, because although the speedo and rev counter are correct for 400C, the centre dashboard is from 400D/E.
It is the wrong colour for 1976 400C and it was my intention to respray it in the correct marine blue paint scheme, so wasn't worried that there are couple of small dents in the tank. I've already bought the 400C decals as shown in the photos and these will be included in the sale. There is some minor pitting on the front forks, but above the travel area. The oil level light doesn't work and it can be tricky to get neutral when running, but all RD's seem to have this problem.
This is nice bike, it isn't perfect but then it doesn't cost £8k+, so it can just be used and enjoyed now, or could easily be improved and is worthwhile investment; looked at several before buying this one and am only selling it because change in my circumstances means have less time to fettle in the garage.
Viewing is welcome.
