1980 Yamaha XT250 G, original matching numbers frame and engine.
I bought this last year with the intention of performing full restoration on it. The bike had been dry stored for 16 years and barely run, so to see how it ran before stripping it, changed the oil and filter, adjusted the tappets, stripped the Mikuni carb, cleaned and reinstalled it with new carb kit, and added new AGM battery.
The bike starts and runs well. It is really controllable at low speed and low revs using the throttle alone, and pulls strongly with no oil smoke or nasty rattles and noises.
It is in very acceptable condition and doesn't require the restoration that had planned for it; just liked the idea of bringing it back to showroom condition. It has clearly been painted in the past which has preserved it nicely. The fuel tank doesn't have the original paint scheme, but is an original tank and in good condition with no damage. The interior has some very light corrosion spots from storage, but nothing significant. The tyres are in good condition and the rear looks to be nearly new.
All of the electrics work, lights, brake lights, horn, indicators, etc.
There is cut on the side of the seat cover as shown in the photos and which has been covered with tape.
The exhaust system is unoriginal but looks good, works well and is not corroded. The rev counter is Yamaha, but incorrect for this model.
I have brand new Yamaha rear mudguard and used original front mudguard, plus set of new grips that will come with the bike as spares.
The best part is that other than the unoriginal exhaust system and rev counter, the bike is complete and you won't need to scour the internet for elusive missing parts.
I have come to the point where have too many projects on the go and need to reduce my workload, so am selling this bike to assist in this.
The bike comes with V5, and an original Yamaha workshop manual, but don't have any history to confirm the mileage.
The bike is now 41 years old and has been registered as Historic so doesn't require road tax or an MOT.
Please feel free to come and view the bike in Woking, or contact me for more photos or information.
