Get one of these rare convertibles before the summer arrives and prices go up. The IROC-Z was built for less then years. IROC-Z is special equipment package car with unique badging that was licensed by the International Race Of Champions to GM for sponsorship rights. Contrary to the popular belief among many of todays youth. Not all 3rd generation camaros are IROC-Z's. The IROC-Z was licensed to GM from 1985 til Dec 31st 1989 (1990 model year) at which time GM lost the license to the IROC label. Therefore the 1990 model year was cut short for all IROC-Z's and GM began producing 1991 cars. The IROC-Z convertible is one of the rarest of all Camaros made during the 4.5 year run from 1985 to 1990. There were about 10k   IROC-Zconvertibles made total for all 4.4 years. There were 1244 IROC-Z convertibles built in 1990. ALL were 5.0 motors (absolutely none were 5.7). It is believed that roughly 65% of them were automatic transmissions and about 25% were bright rally red. It is not a certainty but mathematics indicate there were probably less than 400 of the cars that you are looking at now, and possibly less than 300.
This car is almost all original. am the 4th owner as far as can tell. The car originally was bought in either CA or FL and is CA emissions car. Then it went to collector in Wisconsin who dressed it up but with smoked tail lights and painted intake etc and showed it at shows for while. The car then went to a family in Minnesota who told me they almost never drove it and stored it indoors at all times. (and it shows that way). I bought it from that couple and drove it 2200 miles to CA. It drove like dream. No problems, no squeaks or rattles. Front end alignment is dead on point. All the interior features work perfectly. The seats are clean and not worn like most of these cars. 80% of these cars have worn out drivers seat side bolsters. The carpet is nice but shows its age. The canvas top is probably not the original but its better then the original and fits perfectly. The motor starts immediately every time and the transmission is strong. All the lights and electronics work as the should. The paint is to original. It its clear that this car has been painted at least once because they messed up and painted over the door tags. But the paint is very good not perfect).
Now for what can tell you is less then perfect. You've heard of 20 footers? Meaning the car looks good at 20 feet but not so good closer than that? would describe this car as footer. The paint looks great but if you put your nose right into it you will see some chips and flaws. Its not a super fast powerful car. It goes good but its not going to blow you away with power. If you're in CA you will need to install new Cat converter. It actually passes smog emissions test but the Cat is missing (because its resided into midwest) and needs Cat installed (About $500). You do NOT need to replace the whole exhaust as it is quite new and very good quality. Just need to install CA compliant Cat if you are in CA.
You are welcome to contact me with more questions. If can tell you something that would discourage you from buying it then that's OK. I don't need to sell it and want you to know 100% what you're buying.
