When the new limited edition ZR-1 was introduced in '89 as '90 model, the press and buying public rhapsodized about how great this exotic Corvette was. Both on the street and race track! Almost immediately, racing records started to be broken. Some even stand to this day! This was the most sophisticated Corvette ever built up to that time and with its Lotus-Chevrolet designed twin-cam aluminum V-8 pumping out over 400hp (by '93), there wasn't much in the way of competition!
The C-4 era ZR-1's were built for only five years ('90-'95) in limited quantities. From '93-'95, production saw only 448 units per year. So, it goes without saying that certain color combinations were rarer than others. One of the rarest was Competition Yellow. In '95, the last year of production, only 50 are believed to have been produced, with the rarest combination that year being Yellow with Tan interior, of which only 11 were built! The ZR-1 featured here is one of those 11. But, making it even more desirable is the fact that it's got only 1,500 miles on the odometer! Mike sold this ZR-1 new back in '95. We purchased it back from the original owner number of years ago. It was then sold it to collector client of ours who just traded it into us. The car has always been in So. Cal.
ZR-1's were unique in number of ways. In addition to the LT5 engine, the cars had body that was 3" wider at the rear than standard Corvette with widest rear tire ever offered on an American production car. Another unusual feature was the windshield. In order to keep the interior bit cooler, special "solar windshield" was included in the package. It did help with the interior temp, but they had tendency to delaminate and fog over time, and our feature car is no exception. Unfortunately, factory replacement windshields are next to impossible to find. So rather than replace the factory windshield with non-solar unit, we chose to leave it as is. Otherwise, and is in beautiful condition throughout! If you're in the market for one of the rarest and most collectible ZR-1's on the market, You've just found it!
