Up for sale is custom built, one of kind 1931 Harley-Davidson VL  80 cu. in. Motor with 3-speed transmission.  Suicide foot clutch and tank shift.  Bike was built by me over the course of years with no expense spared.  Frame, fork, rims, hubs, and handlebar are all powder coated for durability.  This bike  represents my interpretation of factory VLR if they would have ever made one mid 1930’s factory race bike or “cut-down” as they called them back in that time period.  The motor was completely rebuilt by Mike Lange of Big Bend, WI (the best in the business)   Originally 74 cu in. from the factory, it was bored .60 over to make it an 80 cu in.  It has matching belly numbers and custom off magneto drive setup that you will not see anywhere else on the planet, because only made of them. It utilizes and early sportster mag with shortened shaft driven off the exhaust cam in custom cast housing that looks like factory option.  This allows you to run without battery.  All cam cover bosses were trimmed off to showcase the oil pump and all the mechanicals underneath.   The bike is runner with no issues – starts 1-2 kicks every time.  Bike comes with rear fenders assemblies. The one shown on it currently and the 1 set up for street use.  Both painted the same, just one is longer with taillight.  I’ve personally ridden this bike for years on the road as licensed motorcycle.  Have clean WI title in my name and is still currently registered.  That being said, the bike is currently set up as flat tracker with number plates and without headlight, taillight, front brake lever, and generator, etc.  All parts to turn it back into street bike come with it. used ’36 3-speed because wanted to run an open primary.  The ’31 trans has large ear off the back to bolt the inner and outer primary to and it just looked funny.  have the mostly complete, original 3-speed and will sell for extra $ Rims and tires, hubs and brakes – original 18” rear and 19” front rim on Coker Firestone tires, OE VL hubs and brakes, front and back all redone with stainless spokesFront fork – original, correct, 1931 I-beam springer totally rebuiltFrame – Original, correct, 1931 VL frame – no tabs etc. have been removedTanks – Replicant Metal Reproduction tanks, silver soldered pieces like the originals – original ones were too far gone to saveSeat – custom made pan and leather  by Jordan at Union Speed and Style in MNHandlebar – Sport solo bar from Faber Cycle in MI with shortened original spiralsPaint  by Jerome Urbaniak and Ray Drea.  Silver leaf and hand lettered and pinstriped in mid-year 1932 HD graphic but in gloss and satin black. It’s been on display to Oily Souls in Detroit, the Handbuilt Show in Austin, Mama Tried in Milwaukee, and showcased at The Race of Gentlemen in 2014 and displayed in the Harley-Davidson booth at Born Free in CA, years ago.  also raced it twice in the brakeless class at Flat Out Friday indoor soda syrup races in Milwaukee.  It is very unique bike that turns heads everywhere and you will never seen another VL  like it.  hate to sell it but need the money to fund some other projects.
This bike is an iron dinosaur that requires maintenance and adjustment to run safely.  It is total loss oiling system that requires you to hand pump the oil into the case and manually drain it when it needs to be changed.  This bike has been taken care of and maintained properly as well as being stored inside my house during the winter months.
Buy it and race it at TROG or at Born Free this year, or convert it back to the street setup and enjoy it. I will answer any questions send them to casey.ketterhagen@gmail.com
I reserve the right to end the auction early because the bike is for sale locally.
