This is 1958 Harley-Davidson 165, also known as Hummer. This was complete nut-and-bolt restoration that my father was in middle of when he passed. It has been in inside in climate controlled environment sitting on the assembly stand he made for it since then.
I am not well versed in these bikes, and was not around during disassembly, but will share what know. The paint was professionally done at an automotive shop and is exceptionally nice. The engine and trans have been rebuilt, but never cranked.
This is rare code bike. What does that mean?In the 50's and 60's, many states had "junior driver's license" which allowed 14-year-olds to drive motorcycles under Horsepower. Harley-Davidson tapped the junior market with special versions of the Model 165, Super-10 and Pacer. These had in the Model Designator, e.g. STU and BTU.The models had restricted intake system to drop the horsepower to just below 5, making them eligible for junior licensing restrictions. The 125cc Hummer was already eligible, since it only produced 3.5 hp, but apparantly many people wanted the increased power and style of the Model 165.The Model 165 STU, produced from 1954 to 1959, had carburetor with restricted orifice. The STU's orifice just had smaller opening than standard ST's. The late 1958 and 1959 STU's are odd they appear to have used different cylinder 16526-58 Late 58 59 STU (special) instead of different carburetor.
Most, but not all, of the parts needed for full assembly are present (For example, only one wheel is present). There are also duplicates of several parts, including the original exhaust and chrome version, several brakes, and three seats- one of which is restored and recovered. Please refer to the photos; if you do not see it, it is not present.
This is an excellent opportunity for Hummer enthusiast, or someone looking to build one. These are very simple bikes and we have great deal of assembly manuals and literature available as well. Plus, the final value of the bike will be significantly higher than the investment.
The bike was purchased as parts bike out of Alabama, so there was no title for it. However, the VIN is clean so new one can be obtained.
Please understand that this bike is for PICK UP ONLY, unless you makes arrangements for crating the chassis. will gladly box up the loose parts for shipping. On Dec-26-16 at 13:47:39 PST, seller added the following information:Updated with missing pic of new exhaust, handlebars and original headlight assembly mountedOn Dec-26-16 at 15:07:59 PST, seller added the following information:Since it has been asked numerous times, yes, the original Bill of Sale is included to prove ownership for titling purposes.
