Honda CB125S HistoryThe Honda CB Series is an extensive line of Hondamotorcycles. Most CB models are road-going motorcycles for commuting andcruising. The smaller CB models are also popular for vintage motorcycle racing. The Honda CB125S is 122 cc (7.4 cu in) motorcycle made byHonda from 1973–1985 in the US.  Honda designed this to be rev-happy engine, with 9500rpm red line linked to 5-speed transmission encouraging you to twist thethrottle and it could easily quicken your heartbeat. For small motorcycle in the1970s, it performed brilliantly. Riders managed to cross 65 mph at top speed, while the bike could effortlessly cruise at 55 mph. real beauty, the HondaCB125S engine could last tens of thousands of miles, provided you kept closeeye on the oil levels. Most owners did oil changes every 700 miles to keepeverything in tip-top condition. The Honda CB125S provided exciting performance to theaverage biker, yet managed to stay frugal. Part of the reason was that it was lightwith weight of 205 lbs. The 5-speed transmission also helped improve bothcontrol and mileage. With torque of something like 18.5 bhp 9000 rpm, theHonda CB125S was nimble and versatile motorcycle that could be used forcommuting to work or just riding for pleasure! This type of Honda engine is interesting as the side camdrive type engine is lot lighter than the center cam chain type, the bore andstroke also favors higher revs and more performance. From 1974-79 the CB125S came with disc brake as standard forthe front wheel. Later models reverted back to the rather weak drum brakes, astrange decision for such zippy motorcycle. The last Honda CB125S rolled out of US manufacturing plantin 1989, but its legacy lives on. It’s also an admired classic motorcycle withmany loyal long-term owners. Simple to use and maintain, you can occasionally spotthis very efficient bike coming up for sale. Honda CB125S in goodcondition still attracts lot of attention from collectors and bike restorers.
This 1978 Honda CB125SThis 1978 Honda CB125S is correct and original; it does showthe patina of its age. The exterior of the gas tank is in need of repairing afew small dents and painting (see close up photo of the gas tank exterior). Theinterior of the gas tank is clean without any rust and has NOT been coated witha sealer. All systems are fully operational and this Honda CB125S is NOT in need of any mechanical repairs. have owned this1978 Honda CB125S for 10 years and haveridden it often. It is blast to pilot on twisty, two lane county road. It hasmore than twice the horsepower of my 90cc Honda’s, yet at about the sameoverall weight. The current mileage is 13,390 miles. It is typical Hondathat starts on the first or second kick, warms up quickly and is ready to ridein just couple of minutes.Realistically, it tops out at an indicated 62 mph, which isplenty fast enough for my purposes. At 1/4 throttle and in third gear, it willcruise capably at 30 mph on back roads, ready to throttle back to 25 mph toenter corners and accelerate to almost 40 mph up hills and on the straights. It is as reliable as pre-'64 Winchester Model 70. Every dayI ride it, it fires up enthusiastically and accelerates nicely from stop. Forsimple, easy, fun riding, NOTHING beats it. In addition, you can expect to ridefor while. You will not want to stop and you won't have to, considering thatthe CB125S gets better than 100 miles per gallon, depending on how it is ridden. The previous owner found 1978 Honda CB125S poster that heframed and gave to me.
