I bought this as my son's first car but it's turned out not to be what it it appears!!!
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING AS I'M HIGHLIGHTING WHAT NOW KNOW ABOUT THE CAR...
My purchase was on the basis that needed to fit new coil to address running issue, which I've done. However, we then discovered major issues with the front light wiring, there was continued intermittent loss of power and we found the speedo to be 10mph adrift. My mechanic suggested new speedo sensor to address the power speedo issues BUT when he went to fit it, there was no speedo sensor there! Instead, this has been by-passed to the ABS sensor. The new sensor bought is still in the packet & will be with the car, along with spare light switch stalks which were part of the lights issue above, because they are the wrong ones!
Following this, we decided to take the car to specialist for full diagnostic test which revealed the following issues with the Cat repairs:
> Possible instrument cluster problem> Throttle body fault (power loss issue)> Air bag ECU has been discharged but NOT replaced> Pre-tensioner faults> No air bag warning light showing (possibly been disabled!)> N/S/F chassis damage> The engine coil light is on intermittently, although this is common to most Renaults of certain age!
> *The 1.2 16V engine has been substituted with 1.2 8V!!!Not recorded with DVSA (This may be factor with the speedo reading...)
Since obtaining the above diagnosis, the mileage display disappears intermittently but as far as am aware, the car has done just short of 58,000 miles which, from the MOT history appears correct. know nothing about the 8V engine's history.
Other than the above, the bodywork interior are above average condition for the year and the surprising thing is when the power isn't an issue it runs perfectly with no apparent gearbox clutch steering problems and it starts first time, even after standing for weeks+ in the winter. good tyres. No leaks in the car nor from the engine.
Since 28th February 2017, the car has been off the road (SORN completed) and the MOT expired 12/03/2017. The V5 is present.
THIS IS AN IDEAL CAR FOR MANY GOOD PARTS OR COULD BE AN INTERESTING REPAIR PROJECT FOR SOMEONE WITH THE TIME INCLINATION!
