FOR SALE IS CLASSIC SUZUKI KATANA 550 CC MOTOR BIKE IN RED.
IT IS DOWN ON THE LOG BOOK AS MANUFACTORED IN 1983. IT WAS IMPORTED INTO THE UK BACK IN 1995 AND THIS WAS WHEN IT WAS FIRST REGISTERED IN THE UK. IT HAS HAD TWO KEEPERS SINCE THEN AND THE LAST OWNER PURCHASED IT IN JULY 1997.
THE HISTORY OF THE BIKE SHOWS IT WAS ORIGINALLY SILVER WHEN FIRST MADE IN JAPAN. WOULD THINK THE FRAME WAS THE SAME COLOUR, WITH  THE TANK AND PLASTICS BEING CHANGED COLOUR.
IT ONLY SHOWS 20,771 MILES ON THE CLOCK, WHICH WAS TOLD BY THE LATE OWNERS WIFE THAT IT WAS CORRECT, BUT HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING.
THE PREVIOUS OWNER USED IT AS HIS DAILY COMMUTE TRANSPORT TO WORK, UNTIL SADLY DUE TO ILL HEALTH HE COULD NO LONGER RIDE.
IT WAS THEN PUT INTO WARM AND DRY STORAGE AT THEIR HOME, IT HAD AN MOT ABOUT ONE YEAR LATER, BUT IT HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN ON THE ROAD SINCE THEN, WHICH WAS OVER TEN YEARS AGO.
I WAS ASKED BY HIS WIDOW IF WAS INTERESTED IN BUYING THE BIKES AS IT WAS TIME SHE THOUGHT TO LET THEM GO.
THERE WAS TWO BIKES ALMOST THE SAME AND LOADS OF SPARE PARTS, THE OTHER BIKE PROJECT BIKE AND THE SPARES HAVE BEEN SOLD.

SO THIS LISTING IS FOR THE 1ST BIKE, AS SAID IT HAD BEEN IN  WARM AND DRY STORAGE, FOR OVER TEN YEARS, IT HAD BEEN ON ITS CENTRE STAND BOTH THE TYRES WERE STILL VERY GOOD.
ALTHOUGH HAVE HAD BIKES OF MY OWN OVER THE YEARS AM IN THE MOTOR TRADE AND RUN SMALL FAMILY GARAGE IN LONDON 4, IT HAS BEEN SOME YEARS SINCE RODE ON THE HIGHWAY AND NOT ON BIKE LIKE THIS ONE, WAS MECHANIC FOR MY LATE BROTHER IN LAW WHEN HE RACED GRASS TRACK AND SCRAMBLERS SOME YEARS BACK.
WHEN FIRST GOT THE BIKE TOOK OUT THE PLUGS TO CHECK THAT THE ENGINE TURNED OVER OK AND IT WAS FINE, OBVIOUSLY ALL THE PETROL HAD DRIED UP WHILE NOT BEING STARTED, SO CLEANED OUT THE TANK, STRIPPED DOWN ALL FOUR CARBS AND CLEANED OUT ALL THE JETS AND CHAMBERS ETC, FRESH PETROL PUT PUT IN AND WITH NEW BATTERY FITTED, LOW AND BEHOLD THE OLD GIRL STARTED AND AFTER IT'S INITIAL WARM UP IT RUNS FINE. WAS NOT TO SURPRISED BECAUSE WAS TOLD BY HIS WIFE THAT HER HUSBAND USED TO TREAT HIS BIKES LIKE BABY WITH REGULAR SERVICING ETC. OVER THE YEARS AS YOU CAN SEE HE HAS REPLACED MANY PARTS.
I CHECKED THE BIKE OVER FOR ANY WORK NEEDED FOR NEW MOT, ALL THAT HAD TO DO WAS ADJUST THE CHAIN FREE OFF THE REAR BRAKE PADS IN THE CALIPER AND RE BLEED THE REAR BRAKE.
AS COULD NOT RIDE IT ON THE ROAD, DUE TO BEING TO SHORT IN THE ARMS, SO  ARRANGED FOR LOCAL MOT STATION TO COME AND COLLECT IT FROM OUR WORKSHOP, THE MOT EXAMINER CAME AND RODE THE BIKE FOR ME, IT PASSED WITH FLYING COLOURS AND HE SAID IT WAS JOY TO RIDE.
SO IT HAS NEW MOT AND BATTERY AND IS READY TO BE SOLD.
THE BIKE IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION FOR IT'S AGE, IT IS NOT PRISTINE AS HAVE TRIED TO SHOW IN THE PICTURES. THERE IS SOME WEAR TO THE AREAS WHERE THE RIDERS KNEES RUB, THESE  WOULD SAY ARE THE BAD BITS, THE CHROME WORK DOES HAVE SOME PITTING AND YOU MIGHT WANT TO HAVE THE CHROME BARS REDONE.
I WOULD ALSO SAY THAT DUE TO IT BEING LAID UP FOR SOME TIME, IT SHOULD HAVE LEAST LUBRICATION SERVICE CARRIED OUT BEFORE BEING USED AND BEING BIT FUSSY, MAYBE HAVE THE CARDS RE TUNED, AS AM NOT ANY KIND OF AN EXPERT ON BIKE ENGINES AND TUNING.

IT HAS BEEN PRICE ON INFORMATION FROM PEOPLE MORE EXPERIENCED ON BIKES THAN MYSELF, PLUS WHAT SIMILAR BIKES ARE BEING ADVERTISED FOR.
